Mislatel now Dito Telecommunity, to start commercial operations by 2020

Mislatel Consortium was formally awarded the license to operate on July 8, 2019. The consortium will be renamed Dito Telecommunity Corporation when it start its commercial operations by 2020.

Dito Telecom is expected to break the PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom duopoly and improve the quality of telco services in the Philippines. The company will rollout only 4G services (especially the higher version of 4G which is 4G VoLTE or voice over LTE) and will no longer offer legacy 2G and 3G systems. The third telco company is also confident to their promise to provide a 5G connection within 2 years.

The consortium received radio frequency bands of 700 megahertz (MHz), 2100 MHz, 2000 MHz, 2.5 gigahertz (GHz), 3.3 GHz, and 3.5 GHz.

Mislatel, which is made up of Dennis Uy's firms and China Telecom, posted a P25.7-billion performance security bond for their commitments as the new major player.

In its first year of operation, the company committed to deliver 27 Mbps internet speed covering 37 percent of the country.

The third telco also promised to offer 55 Mbps of internet speed, bringing fast internet speed close to that in Singapore, that covers 84 percent of the population within 5 years.
